The Void

While really just a sub-region of the much larger Hyperspace, the void was the first dimensional plane (outside the material) for which non-magical transport was discovered, following work by the great Maxwell and Copernicus. When it was first discovered, the Void presented a golden opportunity for the then galaxy-spanning Empire. Upon it's discovery, all else was irrelevant; the Void would bring them to the stars, the Void was the key to the universe. Fate is rarely that kind of, however, and the parallel plane that stands at the core of galactic civilization more than the Empire ever did has brought disaster time and again.
The Void is a dimensional plane running parallel to the material. Difficult to comprehend with a mere mortal mind, the ebb and flow of the Void is the current upon which the speed of light is broken without a second thought. Parallel planes are nothing new; the elves have known about the likes of Paradiso and Purgaetorio for aeons. What sets the Void apart, is that only advanced technology can access the realm.
