Spinal Spear

Created and developed by the From Pennies to Penance Foundation: The Spinal Spear is the standard for ranged weaponry across the board for any group or faction trying to survive the Crossroads Region. The spines of the Omırtqa monster can pierce through almost any form of protection from Waste monsters to more humanoid enemies. Due to both the size and speed of various creatures within the Retribution Wastes it's very important to have such a weapon that causes as much damage as possible while still taking a fighter's mobility into account.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Spinal Spear is a harpoon gun that shoots the spines of Omırtqa monster- which is a species known for their backs having clusters of these sharp and barbed spines. The tips of these spines are hard as diamond, and can pierce most materials while causing as much damage as possible with barbs that seem to expand or nearly explode outward on impact.

Manufacturing process

The spine itself is carefully reduced to its tip as it's the strongest part of the spine. The spine is then fused to a metal shaft- all the while the main parts of the gun itself are produced together in their own separate process just like any normal gun is. The harpoon may or may not be secured with a strong rope for capturing (this type of harpoon gun is geared towards bounty hunters, mercenaries hired to acquire "research material", and other varying purposes) or left without rope if protection is the main goal for the weapon's owner.

The process for obtaining the spines of an Omırtqa monster is known as "stumping"- due to the fact that this procedure for just one spine removal is likened to the process of removing a very stubborn tree stump. The meat around the spines has to be cut, then the base of the spine has to be cut, chopped, or sawed off in some fashion from the "root" of the spines themselves. Depending on whether or not someone is trying to manufacture a Spinal Spear independently or the spear is being manufactured by the "FROM PENNIES TO PENANCE FOUNDATION": the holes left behind by the stumping can either be left alone (in the Retribution Wastes, as it's very cumbersome to even try and remove and carry multiple spines at once without a proper team to help with both removal and exiting before other hostiles ) or these holes can be filled in or sewn up by Pennies to Penance workers within a proper facility.
