Fabric of Reality

The fabric of reality is the basis upon which the world is built. Created long ago by the Weaver of Life, it is the most undeniable fact of existence, what ties together the organisms within. Within the fabric live all of the people of Entwined, its wildlife, its magic, and its gods, all entwined together with the Threads of Life. This fabric is considered sacred to all people of Entwined, each society holding some form of reverence for it. This manifests itself both is worship of the Weaver of Life herself, as well as direct worship for the Fabric of Reality or the Threads of Life.

Legacy of the Great Weaver

The Fabric can be changed, manipulated, and even destroyed by its inhabitants. Those with the ability to see and manipulate its threads are known as Weavers. Weaving can take a great many different forms, and affect the Fabric in many different ways. While the Fabric itself is globally revered, there are mixed feelings surrounding Weaving.

A Tapestry of Thread

The Fabric, as an all-encompassing construct of the world, is not two-dimensional as its name might imply. Multiple parts of the Fabric connect to multiple others, forming an interconnected, or Entwined reality. It can instead best be described as a four-dimensional web of a variety of textiles, constantly moving and shifting as the inhabitants of the world change and modify it.

Death and the Fabric

It is widely believed that when one dies, they become a part of the Fabric of Reality. Their souls help repair any old, frayed, or broken portions of the Fabric, the material they were made of becoming one with the world around it. While this is a comforting thought to many, there are others who have taken this concept too far - the Cult of the Living Death goes so far as to purposefully kill others to make their own Weavers stronger, and the Dusk of Thread tries to incinerate the Threads of Life themselves, hoping to cause the end of all civilisation.

People of the Thread

Stemming from the Fabric of Reality is a variety of people whose life force is drawn from it. These people are the stringfolk, threadfolk, twinefolk, and yarnfolk. Their primary differences are the material from which they are made, which influences their physical appearance.

Reality Burning

While Threads can be cut and reattached, torn and sewn back together, there is one form of destruction that is absolute. This is fire. Fire is incredibly dangerous, deadly, and poses a risk not just to the people of Entwined, but to the very Fabric of the reality that holds them.
