Frogfolk
The Frogfolk of Aeloria, also known as the Croakari, are a diverse and adaptable race known for their agility, amphibious nature, and affinity with the wetlands. They thrive in swampy regions, dense jungles, and along the banks of slow-moving rivers and lakes. Frogfolk are celebrated for their vibrant culture, keen survival instincts, and natural talent for alchemy, herbalism, and aquatic combat.
Appearance:
Frogfolk are humanoid amphibians, typically standing between 3.5 and 5 feet tall. They have smooth, moist skin that comes in a variety of colors, including shades of green, brown, blue, and even bright hues like yellow, red, or purple, often with distinctive patterns like spots, stripes, or mottled blends. This skin not only allows them to blend into their natural environments but also helps regulate moisture, which is crucial for their health and vitality.
Their faces are distinctly frog-like, with wide, expressive eyes that range from golden and green to deep red or violet. They have broad mouths, some with short, sticky tongues that can be used to catch insects or small items. Frogfolk hands and feet are webbed, making them excellent swimmers, and their fingers and toes end in small, round pads that provide a secure grip on wet surfaces or when climbing.
Frogfolk wear light, loose clothing made from reeds, plant fibers, and water-resistant materials, often adorned with shells, beads, or small charms made from bone, wood, or polished stones. They also make use of natural camouflage and often decorate themselves with mud, moss, or plant matter when hunting or stealth is required.
Culture and Society:
Frogfolk society is generally organized into Mudclans or Bog Tribes, each of which is a large, extended family unit or community centered around a particular wetland, swamp, or river system. Each Mudclan is led by an Elder Croaker or Bog Shaman, who is highly respected for their wisdom, knowledge of herbalism and alchemy, and deep spiritual connection to the waters that sustain them.
Frogfolk are known for their adaptability, resourcefulness, and strong sense of community. They work together to build elaborate stilted villages or floating rafts that can rise and fall with the water levels. Their homes are connected by wooden bridges, rope ladders, and woven walkways that allow them to easily move from one area to another, even in flooded conditions.
Frogfolk celebrate life and community with frequent Croak Fests, gatherings that involve feasting, singing, dancing, and storytelling. These events are often accompanied by contests of jumping, diving, and swimming prowess, reflecting their love of both friendly competition and the joy of movement. Frogfolk also have a deep tradition of crafting potent brews, salves, and potions from the herbs and ingredients of their wetlands, blending alchemical knowledge with natural healing practices.
The Way of the Still Waters is a central philosophy among the Frogfolk, emphasizing patience, adaptability, and the importance of balance in all things. Just as a pond remains clear when undisturbed, so too do the Frogfolk seek to maintain inner calm and clarity, only leaping into action when the time is right.
