A Black Magician calls to the Obsidian Phoenix and ends up engaged in a battle of will with it

A powerful black magic-user puts out a call to the Obsidian Phoenix and begs it to assist in avenging the murder of his family by destroying a rival mage. The Phoenix is moved, but also suspicious and begins to question the mage, engaging him in a game of wit and willpower and pushing him to the point of frustration. Finally, he admits that the rival did not kill his family, and the Phoenix sets him aflame in retaliation for his attempt to use the avenger for his own selfish ambitions.
