Emperor

The Emperor is the leader of Etrian society. He controls the expansion of the empire, the religion, and the laws that the people abide by. Without the Emperor, Etrian society would fall apart.   The Emperor is said to be a son of the gods. The Emperor is always a man, and always biologically male.

Qualifications

The Emperor is taught how to be an Emperor by his father before his death. As part of the initiation of the new Emperor, he must fight some guards. The fight is symbolic, however, and is scripted.   The Emperor needs to carry out the fight to the script, to prove his connection to the deities.

Requirements

The Emperor needs to be the son of a previous Emperor and needs to be a man, who is biologically male. This is due to tradition, that the Emperors have not changed.

Appointment

The Emperor, once the old Emperor dies, is required to take part in a ritual fight. The Emperor must complete the fight as instructed to prove himself worthy of the title.   Any sons of the Emperor who do not complete the fight correctly are disqualified, whilst those who do are then required to fight each other. This is a fight to the death. The winner will then ceremoniusly kill his brothers who did not complete the first fight correctly.   Should all sons fail the first fight, the chances are the guards will employ a practitioner to change their memory, so that they believe they all won. Then the second fight will take place.

Responsibilities

The Emperor is responsible for religion, law, and expansion of the empire.

History

The Emperor has existed for as long as the Etrian empire has existed
