Chapter 4: Heroes in unlikely places
Merric the Brave
Merric Highhill was a stout halfling warrior famous for his strength in battle. He served in the 1st hog rider battalion and legend has it he could kill an orc in a single glance. Merric grew up as a farmer in the clover hills area of north east Cresteria farming swine and other such livestock. When the events of the allance of Pelor took place Merric felt that even the halflings should play a roll in such a great war. So, he took the hogs whish the farmers were raising for food and trained them for combat.
The birth of this army became the first hog rider battalion of which Merric became their first general. Merric trained night and day before forming a personal bond with a hog who he named Hogbea who became Merric's personal steed. To stand out amongst his soldiers Merric took to using a large greataxe not typically used amongst the halfling warriors due to their size.
This lead Merric to forge a lighter axe for easier use as well as the ability to come back to his hand when he willed it. Many a battle was fought with this newly formed army winning battle after battle before coming recognised by Pelor himself. During the last battle he fought in Pelor's vanguard, assisting other generals such as Lia Nailo of the Pegasus cavalry.
Merric himself fought till the bitter end till he was over come by a giant whose giant axe cut down Merric's steed. Filled with the pure rage at the death of his friend Merric fought against the giant before coming overwhelmed and sadly falling in battle. No one knows where the hero fell but rumour has it that if a halfling proves himself in battle he will gain the strength of Merric Highhill.
