Vampire the Masquerade v5 - Basic Dice Mechanics

Here is a quick explanation of how the basic Dice Mechanics work in Vampire the Masquerade v5. I hope this is helpful since there are options in the Channel Point Redemptions on our Twitch Channel that allow you to mess the Player's rolls...

Difficulty:

Difficulty means the total number of successful dice required to accomplish a task. A dice is considered to be a success if the roll is a 6+

Vampire Dice:

Vampire Die are the basic black 10-sided Dice that the players use. Every roll of a 6+ is considered a Success. Every pair of 10's rolled with Vampire Dice are treated as a Critical Success and count as 4 successes instead of just 2.

Hunger Dice:

Hunger Dice are the Red 10-sided Dice. If a Player rolls a pair of 10's with at least One of the pair being a Hunger Dice, it is considered a Messy Critical Success instead of just a Critical Success. If a player rolls a single 1 on any of their Hunger Dice, it will cause the total roll to become a Bestial Failure unless the roll beats the Difficulty set by the ST.

Messy Critical:

If a Player rolls a pair of 10's with at least One of the pair being a Hunger Dice, it is considered a Messy Critical. The Pair of 10's is treated as 4 Successes instead of 2 but unlike a regular Critical Success, the Character is subject to some extra mechanical and narrative effects as determined by the ST.

Bestial Failure:

A Bestial Failure is any Roll that fails to meet the set Difficulty while at least one of the Hunger Dice had a result of a 1. A Bestial Failure causes the action being attempted to fail dramatically and the Character suffers additional narrative and mechanical consequences determined by the ST such as possibly frenzying, or falling victim to their Clan Compulsion.
