Playing a Camarilla Brujah

A lot of people choose Brujah thinking that they're a relatively simple clan to play, and quickly find out that your average Brujah is a lot more complex than they are given credit for. Here are some things that are good to think about while playing a Camarilla Brujah.
  1. Why did you choose the Camarilla? Your character at some point chose to be with the Camarilla rather than go Anarch. Why is that? What does the Camarilla have that they believe in? Here are some examples. Billy the older neonate believes in the Camarilla because he thinks that by and large, the Masquerade is the smartest idea out there, and there has to be some kind of rules. Amber the young neonate has never known anything else, and without her sire around is feeling rebellious. She's exploring for the first time, and might be open to anarch ideas. Any answer is acceptable, as long as there is a reason your character sticks around and deals with the nightly bullshit.
  2. What don't they like about the Camarilla? All Brujah have something they don't like. Some have a shitload of things they don't like. Everyone has something they want to see changed for the better, or just shut the fuck down if it's broken. More examples, Billy might think that even though there has to be some kind of rules to keep the Masquerade intact, the Patricians went nuts with it, and there's no common sense anymore. It's all outdated bullshit. Amber might be feeling restricted and chafing at the constant scrutiny of the harpies and the status system, wanting to be recognized for her achievements sooner rather than later.
  3. Brujah are like Bruce Banner. You have an anger management problem. What this doesn't mean is that your character must be angry, and only angry, one hundred percent of the time. Yes, your character can relax and joke around, crack a smile, be sociable. It just means that he has a simmering anger that's quick to ignite when provoked. So what provokes your character? What can he shrug off a little more easily? What makes him instantly hulk out and have to roll frenzy? Knowing these things can give you a more rounded RP experience.
  4. Note: Having higher WP means you may be able to shrug more things off a little more easily. For a Brujah, "shrugging it off" might mean you can keep your cool long enough to give a tense, brittle smile and walk out of the elysium before breaking someone's face, rather than going with your fists clenched, fangs out, spending WP not to beat someone into torpor as you hustle your ass out of there. There are no unearthly calm Brujah, and no Brujah who react with polite aloofness to repeated harassment. You have anger issues. Roll with it.
  5. You're gonna sell out. Deal with it. Younger Camarilla Brujah often find themselves crossing some invisible barrier between acceptable swaggering asshole and unacceptable swaggering asshole. You don't want to bow your head to the man or give in, so what's a Brujah to do? The fact of the matter is, in order to survive and thrive, all Camarilla Brujah have to learn the lesson of selling out. It's a personal choice, and often one that leaves Brujah in denial and trying to fool themselves and their clan members. But it's a slippery slope, and if the choice is spitting in the Prince's face to look like a badass or bow before the throne, the smart neonate doesn't have to think very hard about which is the good choice. A Brujah's existence in the Camarilla is going to be filled with hundreds of those choices, most of them not so dramatic.
  6. Have fun with your character! Learn what makes him tick, and what makes him a nuanced character and not just a fury filled potence machine. Your RP will be more fun the more nuanced your character is.
