Magmotter

An excerpt on magmotters taken from the journals' of the researcher Erika Silversnare in the year 770 PGWE.
Due to the historically destructive and dangerous nature of the molten rock, no one dared to tread near the volcanos of the land or any other sources of lava. Therefore, before the great war, the magmotter was once thought to be naught, but myth. A story told to kids to teach them about true love, dedication, and companionship. Stories not unlike those about the Akkakala or the Lute'aeriya.   To this day, few know the truth about the existence of the magmotter due to its unusual habitat and lifestyle. The only reason I was able to confirm and study these majestic creatures was due to the generosity and hospitality of the Creagan Teth. After all, they are the only group that has been capable of raising these creatures. At least to the best of both my, and their, knowledge.   Since coming here 6 months ago, I have learned so much about these creatures. First off, only one family has been able to successfully care for these animals due to their complexity and the fact that they live in and around pits of molten lava. According to Remael, the current caretaker, people stopped doing an apprenticeship with them due to the high amount of casualties incurred by those outside the Tyrrian family who have tried.   However, I would guess that is a tale passed from father to son in an attempt to hammer in the need for caution. After all, one small slip up might land you in one of those pits.   What a terrible way that would be to go...

Appearance

The magmotter is a large weasel like creature, about the size of your average pack mule. They have a long, thin bodies, a pointed snout, and short powerful legs. Their most striking features would be their long, powerful, prehensile tails, their terrifyingly strong legs, webbed feet, and ineffable ability to live in the extreme temperatures of molten rock.   Their fur, which appears to be dark in young adolescence, is primarily a deep orange that appears to almost glow. As if always wet with the magma in which they swim. Then on their underbelly the fur appears to be a bright orange all the way up to, and sometimes around, their snouts.

Symbology

As far back as anyone can remember and as far as the records show, Creagan Teth, one of the most powerful and prominent religions in the known world, has used the magmotter as their symbol. An apt symbol to those who know the true nature of this creature
Scientific Name
Igneumustelidae
