Creepy Crawlies

With bold, luminous days and nights full of eternal twilight, the world of Signet is bright enough that plants grow quickly and seasons are mostly even, thanks to the planetary rings that twirl across the sky. At a glance, it should have been paradise. But it isn't. The hordes of monsters are an ever-present threat. Few places are safe from them. Their sudden, inexplicable arrival has toppled empires and changed entire civilizations. Thousands of years have passed since Hazeneld fell, but since then, no peace has been found anywhere under the Crown of Heaven.   Even other humans are threats. Echos of a thousand-year long occupation has left lasting scars on the nation of Zijura. Fear of a new occupation runs so deep in the country that every citizen is required to do three years of mandatory military service. With tensions rising with neighbor Rozänvald, many are thankful for the practice.   In keeping with tradition and the law, sixteen-year-old Calder Vanderwilge is reluctantly prepared for the beginning of his service. But he has a secret–every since he was a child, he possessed the ability to disappear into the shadows. Since the death of his grandmother, he has lost any semblance of control he had over his power. What's worse, he worries that he is disappearing completely.   The truth is, he has never been more seen.
