Evermeal

The dangers the Wanderlands present are as old as time.  The oppressive heat, lack of shade, and absence of natural shelter make it one of the most naturally hazardous places known internationally.     That being said, while this region presents a lack of accommodation to travelers, it does not mean that it is completely bereft of usefulness and resources.    Regional citizens have had to get creative with how they prepare for such journeys.  The waterways running deep below the surface had long since been known about.  The waterways were deep and hard to find.  It was no surprise that where access to one of these sources of water made itself present, a town or outpost was found as well. These oases were where rare fruits known as the Cisterna grew. A plant that got its name due to its ability to retain water.     The waterways were mostly replaced by now tunnels thanks to The God Hand.  The effect on the outposts throughout the region was catastrophic as most of the waterways dried up.  There are some the remain and small streams still run through many of the tunnels. Here, Cisterna still grow.   Locals can still find and prepare a dish where the Cisterna is saturated with an enriched broth of proteins, electrolytes, and vitamins. They call it the Evermeal.  Depending on how much one can swallow without chewing, it does not digest very quickly. The Cisterna is slow to break down and sit in the gut for quite some time. Food is far less important than hydration when crossing the desert. The Evermeal provides a steady stream of hydration and nutrients that can help keep one from certain death.
