Arcane Dragon

Whether they're willing to admit it or not, almost all wizards are fascinated by dragons.  Their raw power and ability to coexist with arcane energy running through their very veins is enough to spark envy in even some of the most practiced mages.   When The Tower was turned into what it is today, the very stones had a dragon emerging from humanoid hands.  This wasn't meant as a sleight at dragons being controlled, but rather the wizards making a bold proclamation that they were ascending to the power of the dragons themselves.     Sometimes, wondering just isn't enough for these apex spellcasters, and pushing the limits of what one can do with the arcane is all they can think about.  Now that the sources of ley energy had been tapped, two such spellcasters decided they were going test their mettle.   With all great spells, it required components. With all great spells, these components were not easy to come by.  With all great spells, the cost would be great.   Once the price had been paid, the work could be done.     The conduit had to be constructed to harness and contain the ley energy that would be poured forth.  Signal gems were set in place to allow magical impulses to be sent to control the beast. Each one carefully placed to allow for natural movement.  Lastly, the crown jewel, the arcane furnace and bellows that would give the monster its signature, the dragon's breath. A breath that displays the power of the mighty being. A breath that instills fear and capitulation into those who dare to defy it.    Once everything was set it place, the two wizards were practically bursting with a flurry of emotions, emotions that would have to be ignored until the ritual was done.  The anxiety of any great feat is commonplace.  The fear of catastrophic failure will greatly outweigh the potential in one's vision when approaching such a dangerous feat.  These two partners in arcane forging had the requisite confidence to believe their experiment would be a success and their vision would come to fruition.  If  The God Hand had been done successfully, why couldn't this?   The scene was set and the wizards were ready. They carefully recited their incantations and began the ritual of opening the ley line and pouring the energy into the vessel.  The ground shook and the very light around the space seemed to bend as two mortals attempted to create life.   Just as fast and chaotic as it all started, and the last drop of ley energy rushed into the vessel, the air became still and silent.  The anticipation was palpable as the shell of the dragon still laid motionless on the stone floor, an iridescent glow permeating from beneath its forged scales.     On that day, for miles in each direction, a mighty roar could be heard.
