Skin Ash
Skin ash, also know as Skinashe and Dejan Blight, is a powdery, ash like fuschia substance most often found in The Empty. It does not inflect any physical sensations of pain on contact, but does dye almost anything it comes into contact with cerulean, and ingestion or inhalation is typically fatal after several days, with no symptoms arising until a few painful hours before death.
Skin ash gets its name from it's supposed source. Many in Adellon in Ishi Plateau and Tavts believe that skin ash is the skin shed from the undead who marched to Deja on Convulsion Day , but there is no confirmed evidence for this.
Skin ash tends to be carried by dust devils, known as Skin storms, Ash storms, Blight storms, or Dejan kisses. Storms do leave traces of skin ash residue, but for the most part skin ash is only a threat to the careful during storms.
Skin ash is rarely used for its powerful dying properties, thanks to the risks involved, but some magicians unscrupulous enough to continue their practices in the Post-Convulsive world use it to substitute spell components, like moonstone or jade. Some have suggested that magic use attracts Ash storms, and may in fact be the precise mechanism by which The Empty has grown.
Skin ash has acoustic dampening, like snow but more pronounced, and sometimes storms or residue can be detected before visual or other confirmation by noticing things getting quieter.
