Orberry
As you climb through the hills toward the Spearwall peaks, you start to see houses dug partially into sloping hillsides. Pleasant flowered windowboxes and stone chimneys decorate the homes' fronts. As you enter the town proper, the houses pack closer together and the sound of occasional windchimes gives way the the squeak of water wheels and the low clacking of large, slow wooden gears. A large clock tower dominates the center square of the town. Curious gnomes peer out from behind embellished curtains in dusty shop windows.
Orebury, later called "Orberry" was founded as a purely Imperial mining town in an attempt to get local iron cheaper than the dwarves were selling it. The opening of the mine touched off long decades of intermittent strife with dwarven miners. Eventually, the Empire ended the conflict by conquering the dwarves who were once their allies. Two centuries have passed since those events.
Gnomes from several prominent families across the Empire flocked to the fledgling town to build a community of their own. The Empire had intended it to be a simple mining town, but what resulted was a community of well-educated artisans and tinkers. Over the last two centuries, a number of Orberry residents have become prominent inventors and engineers.
LEGACY INFORMATION
Culture of Tricksters (regional trait)
Orberrians grow up in a culture of practical jokers. It turns out, always checking your chair or your door for pranks is a good habit for an adventurer, too. You gain the ability to find and disable magical traps like a rogue with the Trapfinding ability (though you don't get any other benefits of Trapfinding unless you have that ability from another source). You also gain Knowledge: Engineering as a class skill, and a +1 trait bonus to it.
