Dwarves of the Lake Province

Dwarves have been in the Lake region longer than any other people. Their distant ancestors lived nomadically on the surface and competed with giants for territory and food. Their culture changed with contact with the Empire. The Imperials taught them to forge metal and work stone, which they quickly excelled at. This led to their clans settling down in one place and building fortifications. No living dwarves recall the old, wild ways, but the complex honor system and family-focused values have survived through the centuries.
Long association with creatures of the earth has given rise to a handful of oread families.
