Festival of Creation

The streets of the town are bustling with life, bursting at the seams with joy and celebration for the Festival of Creation.   A newcomer would find themselves bombarded by their senses; music overlapping and weaving with the conversations flowing just as energetically; bumping into racing children dragging sticks in the sand to make paths and designs, running hands over art made to be felt; tables boasting breads and artisanal delicacies, a mouthwatering aroma that is shared on the wind and this lofty reputation upheld through the taste. But the most all-encompassing experience is the sheer amount of color.   Everyone starts dressed in a single color, but by the end of the night, they will be a kaleidoscope of experiences and a creation entirely unique, as friends, family, neighbors, and artisans all leave their own colored mark. To be a palette so varied is to be touched by many people, affected by many people, loved by many people: a creation of your own but shaped by those around you just as easily.

Author's Notes

This was actually inspired by a community challenge run by Worldbuilder's Tavern (https://www.tiktok.com/@worldbuilderstavern), a podcast I quite enjoy that does monthly flash fiction challenges! This prompt was to get a random image and write a story surrounding it in less than 400 words. Not quite a story, but certainly a fun piece of worldbuilding and a challenge I recommend!   The image at the top of the page was the image that sparked this article!
