Dance in the Nether

Dance

By far the highest favored art form in the Nether is dancing. Netherborn are always keen on physical contact, engagement, and activity, so it is only natural their favored form of expression is dance.   Dances are a common part of life in the Nether, and different dances are used in different circumstances generally, but never exclusively.   After successful hunts, expeditions, or other community celebrations, the entire community will dance together, arms spread wide and bouncing to the banging of drums, shields or whatever else can be used for percussive beats. Widespread arms symbolize an open community, shared experiences, and connection to each other, especially when dancers join hands.   Celebrations are frequent in the Nether, always finding reasons to explore joy and triumph no matter the shape of it. Spawn days, remembrance days, unions and even deaths are all honored with dance of different forms.   Spawn days are large community affairs, celebrating the first or the latest successful age milestone. Dances are a large circle where everyone takes turns whirling about the spawn-day person until it devolves into everyone encircling the person in what is functionally a large hug, lifting them up to the Nether roof on shoulders and spirits until they wish to be set down. Those in the fringes will spin with loved ones and jump until they get to spin the spawned around themselves.   Remembrance days are just as lively as everyone dresses for their ancestors and successors, relics worn and spirits honored in the retellings and reenactments of great feats of strength. Stories are told to a beat, the community setting the tone and tempo as descendants perform songs and spectacles passed down through the ages in order to be continuously lifted up. Remembrance days are a celebration of the lives before, recognizing how life in the present is influenced by them, and what you intend to be remembered as. Songs and hymns are written while the person is present and performed in their absence, and are honored with expansions from the performers on their personal relation to the story and the subject. The strength celebrated can be physical, emotional or mental in nature, as all are revered by the Netherborn.   Unions are the biggest festivities in the community in the realm of dance. Those who have sworn fealty to each other through everything will have a choreographed dance demonstrating their unique strengths, push and pull and how they come together. This will always lead to raucous applause, celebration, and those already in unions revisit their own dances. The night is full of festivities and dance circles where everyone is given the spotlight at least once.
