Droning

Droning, a type of music that involves slowly humming words, verses, or songs in a low, monotone voice, was once very common to religious rites in the Acronian Sea, but has since faded into obscurity in modern religious practice. Instead, it has found a new place in the superstitions of sailors as a way to garner good luck.   Common to Hekrosian, Sprigstein, and Aclian sailors, droning is said to bring good luck at sea, or to even counteract the effects of a Siren’s or malicious Merfolk’s more melodious yet deadly songs. Some captains even go so far as to hire full time droners for long voyages.

History

Origins of the practice lie in old religious rites, but many also believe that Fenrey, the Angel of Water, practiced droning to inspire the freedom fighters who fought against the Obelisk Empire and strike fear into the Obelisk soldiers. Many tales of wind and waves being in the favor of the rebels gave rise to the idea that Fenrey controlled the seas to aid the people, and that droning today can have a similar effect.
