The Cult of the Elemental is in fact, three separate cults: the Cult of Elemental Goodness, the Cult of Elemental Balance, and the Cult of Elemental Evil. Each is almost wholly independent of the others, just as the four orders within each cult are separate religious entities: the Order of Earth, the Order of Air, the Order of Fire, and the Order of Water. Each order is a temple unto itself, and only one of the cults, the Church of Elemental Evil, has ever tried to bring the four differently-minded orders together into a cohesive whole. This effort, like the Cult of the Orb, was destroyed by Chamber Mandate (the Star Chamber of the Kingsmark Unity) many tens of cycles ago. It was said that the Church of Elemental Evil sought to bring all the Nine Seas under the sway of pervading, elemental evil, and this was something that the Chamber could not abide.   The Orders of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water that hold loosely to the tenets of the Cult of Elemental Balance is the most prevalent of the three cults. Priests and followers of their chosen element immerse themselves in the worship, study, and adoration of that element. In fact, there have been stories filtering up from the Calimphari Shahnates that Elementalists there have taken to martyring themselves: members of the Order of Fire will sit cross-legged in city squares as they are engulfed in flames; members of the Order of Water are discovered drowned in the middle of a desert; and so on. What these portents mean, few want to venture, but Elementalists in Kingsmark say it has to do with the coming of a new Age, an Age of the Elemental, when all other gods shall be thrown down, and people will finally see the joy to be found in the purity of the elements.
