Slephus Prime

Overview

Slephus Prime is a habitable ocean world and the homeworld of the Orbisur. Once the capital of Orbis Customer Synergies (OCS)—a powerful megacorporation that later ceded governmental authority to the United Federation of Nations (UFN)—the planet remains the primary headquarters of OCS. Despite its transition into the UFN's interstellar framework, Slephus Prime continues to be a major economic and commercial hub, balancing its role as a business powerhouse with its reputation as a luxurious travel destination.   The planet is the third satellite in the Slephus System and possesses a single orbiting moon. With oceans covering 91% of the surface, land is extremely scarce, limited to polar ice caps and a series of archipelagos. These island chains, arranged in long formations separated by massive expanses of open water, serve as the planet's primary population centers, effectively functioning as small, scattered continents.

Geography and Urban Development

Slephus Prime’s geography presents significant challenges to urbanization, with its few landmasses often subject to inclement weather, earthquakes, and volcanic activity. However, the development of seismic stabilization and weather control technologies in the early 23rd century FS allowed for rapid expansion, paving the way for post-FTL urban centers. Cities on Slephus Prime extend over the water in various ways: some are supported on massive stilts in coastal regions, others rest on vast sections of reclaimed land, and many of the most recent constructions are fully floating or submerged settlements.   As land-based real estate became increasingly scarce following the post-stabilization boom, the majority of contemporary construction has focused on floating megacities, oceanic platforms, and deep-sea habitats. These aqua-arcologies are now home to much of the planet’s population, forming interconnected networks of commerce, research, and residential districts. Despite this heavy urbanization, the natural beauty of the planet remains a priority, with certain regions designated as protected environmental reserves or luxury estates for the ultra-wealthy.

Economy and Industry

Slephus Prime remains one of the most economically significant planets in its region, primarily due to its ties to Orbis Customer Synergies. The headquarters of OCS dominates the skyline of the planet’s largest city, with the 225-story executive tower serving as both a corporate nerve center and a symbol of OCS’s enduring influence. At the pinnacle of this tower lies the CEO’s private penthouse, complete with personal offices, luxury amenities, and a repulsorcraft landing pad for exclusive transport. In addition to their urban presence, OCS executives maintain private estates across the planet, often in exclusive resort zones.   While corporate services, finance, and high-end commerce dominate the economy, Slephus Prime also supports agriculture and mining. Food production is largely based on deep-sea trawling and hydroponic farms, though some rare land-based agriculture persists, catering primarily to the planet’s elite. The ability to grow luxury or offworld crops in artificially maintained land zones has become a status symbol among the wealthiest Orbisur. Mining operations, both terrestrial and aquatic, exist but are relatively limited, as most mineral resources are imported from offworld colonies.

Tourism and Hospitality

One of the defining features of Slephus Prime’s economy is its interstellar tourism sector. The planet’s stunning oceanic vistas and diverse island climates, combined with highly effective advertising campaigns, have made it a sought-after travel destination. Recognizing this potential, OCS has set aside numerous islands as high-end resorts, designed specifically for offworld visitors. These locations provide exclusive accommodations, preserved natural environments, and elite amenities that cater to diplomats, corporate investors, and wealthy tourists.   Despite the travel distances involved, these resorts have become some of the most well-known luxury retreats in the UFN’s economic sphere. They also serve a diplomatic function, acting as de facto embassies where OCS executives can meet with foreign dignitaries and negotiate major business deals in an informal yet opulent setting.

Cultural and Social Landscape

Slephus Prime’s highly urbanized and corporate-driven society reflects the Orbisur's long-standing commitment to efficiency, commerce, and economic pragmatism. The planet is home to a dense population of Orbisur, but also maintains sizable Human and Kilik populations, many of whom work in tourism, research, or corporate administration.   Social life on Slephus Prime is largely shaped by corporate structures, with many citizens employed in OCS-related industries or associated financial institutions. The extravagant lifestyle of the planet’s wealthiest inhabitants contrasts sharply with the regimented, professional existence of its working population. Despite this, the planet remains remarkably stable, thanks to strict corporate governance policies and a strong service-driven economy that keeps employment rates high and social mobility viable.

Future Prospects

As both the capital of the Orbisur homeworld and a central player in UFN economic networks, Slephus Prime’s future appears secure. Its corporate influence, luxury tourism industry, and advanced urban infrastructure make it a unique and irreplaceable world within the UFN’s interstellar framework.   While the increasing scarcity of land presents ongoing challenges, the continued expansion of floating and submerged urban centers ensures that Slephus Prime will remain at the forefront of innovation in oceanic city development. Additionally, as interstellar travel improves, the tourism sector is expected to grow even further, cementing the planet’s status as both an economic powerhouse and a premier destination for the galaxy’s elite.   With its blend of corporate ambition, technological advancement, and stunning natural beauty, Slephus Prime stands as a testament to the adaptability and vision of its people, ensuring that its influence will persist for generations to come.
