Red Devils
The Red Devils are a storied and infamous special forces unit within the United Federation of Nations (UFN) Army. Originally formed during the brutal Colony War, the Red Devils served as the tip of the spear for the UFN’s experimental Xenowarfare Division. Stationed initially on Mars—now known as Terra Nova—the Red Devils were the first and only human unit to regularly fight alongside biologically engineered alien lifeforms.
Their legacy is marked by controversy, fear, and battlefield success. Though the unit was disbanded after the Colony War due to legal and ethical ramifications surrounding xenowarfare, it has since been reinstated in modern times with tighter oversight and cutting-edge technologies. Today, the Red Devils continue to serve as a frontline apex predator unit of the UFN Army, fielding some of the deadliest alien bioweapons known to mankind.
Origins in the Colony War
The Red Devils were formed as part of the UFN’s strategic pivot toward unconventional warfare in response to the massive losses suffered early in the Colony War. The UFN’s Xenowarfare Division was established to research and weaponize alien lifeforms as force multipliers. After a series of early failures, the division experienced its first breakthrough with the acquisition of the Kreet Stalker, a highly adaptable predatory organism delivered on July 6th. This success led to the relocation of xenowarfare operations to a secret research facility on the alien planet Kreet in the Narion system. The project was formally named Project Petshop, and by August 7th, the Kreet Stalkers became the backbone of xenowarfare operations. The Vesta Campaign and the Rise of the Red Devils
The Red Devils earned their reputation during the invasion of Vesta, where they deployed alongside Kreet Stalkers in a coordinated xenowarfare assault. The biological units proved devastatingly effective in urban and subterranean environments, prompting UFN leadership to greenlight the next phase of Project Petshop. On August 15th, the Xenowarfare Division introduced the Terrormorph to its arsenal, delivered under high-security conditions. The Terrormorph, known scientifically as Occisio machina, exhibited intelligence, physical prowess, and pheromonal dominance over weaker species. However, attempts to install a Neural Control Interface (NCI) on the Terrormorph failed catastrophically. The creature went berserk, destroying the Kreet facility and killing numerous researchers. Despite the tragedy, the Red Devils continued to operate alongside alien units, earning a fearsome reputation as a brutal but effective force. By the war's end, they were considered one of the meanest and most dangerous special forces units in the UFN military.Disbandment and the Armistice
With the war’s conclusion, the Armistice that ended the Colony War included a comprehensive ban on xenowarfare. All associated research was locked away in the Armistice Archives, and the Red Devils were formally disbanded. The unit’s commanding officer lobbied to maintain the Red Devils as an elite special operations unit based on Mars, but the Federal Council denied the request. Without their xenowarfare foundation, the Red Devils were deemed obsolete.Reinstatement and Modern Doctrine
Nearly two centuries later, as previously outlawed technologies like mechs returned to the battlefield, the UFN Federal Assembly reversed its stance on xenowarfare. With new legal frameworks emphasizing transparency, oversight, and ethical boundaries, the Xenowarfare Division and the Red Devils were officially reinstated. Modern xenowarfare operates under strict regulations. Alien units are prohibited from being deployed against sapient biologicals. All alien organisms used by the Red Devils are sterile, cloned, and genetically modified to prevent reproduction and ensure compliance. Each unit is fitted with a self-destruct kill switch, which activates if it goes out of range, is captured, or has its Neural Control Interface damaged. The NCIs themselves have been upgraded with advanced signal security and resilience. In addition, advancements in the understanding of the morphogenetic field have enabled direct subconscious control of alien units by human operators. Scientists now accompany Red Devil operations from hardened command bunkers, maintaining control over the alien swarms in real-time and monitoring battlefield dynamics through biometric telemetry. The relationship between soldier and bio-weapon is closely supervised, forming an uneasy but powerful alliance.Modern Arsenal
The Red Devils maintain an evolving stable of apex predators in their arsenal. Chief among these is the Terrormorph, scientifically known as Occisio machina. Terrormorphs are agile, intelligent, and highly lethal. They are known for their capacity to control or subjugate lesser species using advanced pheromonal emissions. More disturbingly, Terrormorphs grow more tactically adept and mentally potent with age, making veteran specimens especially dangerous. Another prominent organism in their current arsenal is the Xenomorph, or Xenomorph XX121, scientifically classified as Linguafoeda Acheronsis. The Xenomorph is renowned for its unparalleled stealth, devastating melee combat capabilities, and acid blood, which acts as both a weapon and a defense mechanism. Though originally known for rapid and adaptive reproduction, the specimens used by the Red Devils are strictly sterile and cloned, eliminating any risk of uncontrolled propagation. Their hive-like coordination, however, remains intact and is guided via enhanced NCIs linked to human controllers.Reputation and Legacy
The Red Devils' legacy is one of tactical ruthlessness and terrifying efficiency. Feared by enemies and sometimes distrusted even by allies, they walk a narrow path between military necessity and ethical ambiguity. Their bright crimson insignia, often emblazoned with alien claw marks or a grinning demon skull, is a psychological weapon in itself. In today's UFN Army, the Red Devils are deployed in scenarios too hostile or unpredictable for conventional forces. Their return from the shadows of the Armistice era into modern warfare marks a controversial yet undeniable evolution in UFN military doctrine. They are humanity’s ultimate monster tamers—and sometimes, monsters themselves.
