Spiners Ethnicity in Corvisia | World Anvil

Spiners

Spiners are the inhabitants of Great Spine, located in northern Corvisia. Most of these inhabitants are dwarves residing inside the mountain city of Harn Boldor. Harn Boldor is the only known location of Mithril in Corvisia, as well as the most common place to find many different kinds of gemstones, so mining is the primary career for those who reside inside the mountain. The many different ores and gems that are mined in Harn Boldor are a heavily sought after export, but are often highly susceptible to being robbed en route to their destination. Diamonds from Great Spine are highly sought after by bandits, making it very hard for clerics who have recently learned divine healing to get the supplies needed for resurrection spells.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The most common language in Great Spine is dwarvish, with common being a distant second. Typically, you'll be able to find people who speak a bit of common and occasionally people who are fluent in it, but for the most part there can be communication barriers especially in Harn Boldor if one doesn't speak dwarvish.

Common Etiquette rules

It is polite to offer the finest ale you can get when inviting someone to your home in Great Spine, and the guest should always bring their favorite drinking glass to share. When going out to drink, whoever extended the invite should always buy the first round for the group, and the group takes turns from there.

When a male dwarf of Harn Boldor comes of age, he must travel into the mines for a minimum of five days before coming out with the rarest gem he can find, to prove that he is worthy of carrying on the family name.
