Rogdul's Compedium of Fights and Faeries
"What the hell...?"
"It's Orcish."
"Ohhhhh."
-Adventurers on first reading
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The book will notify the attuned person when a new monster is nearby. The book doesn't warn the adventurer if there's a previously seen monster nearby or how many of the soon to be newly discovered monsters there are. The book is sentient and will warn the attuned person about the dangers in manners proportional to the level of danger the person is getting themselves into.
The attuned person must tell the book a story every night before their long rest so that it can learn about more monsters. If not the person loses attunement to Rogdul's Compendium
Significance
Rogdul was an orcish planeswalker who spent his considerably, unnaturally extended life exploring new environments. His masterpiece, The Beings of This World and Next was lost. Fortunately for orcish society, the children's book he wrote survives today. It shares with young orcs fables explaining the dangers of the monsters that roam existence in fun stories such as When Dixie Lost Her Arm and The Mimic, The Man, and the Man Inside the Mimic. The gruesome nature of the tales must be put into context of the brutal orc society it was created in.
