The Glass Plain
The empty horizon yields to a sea of reflective facets, interspersed across the flat sand. At its edges, the shattered debris of sandskiffs lie scattered across the cracked glass plains where sharp edges have bit and tore into them. At it’s center is a crater.
Deeper: The blinding glare disorients travelers, leading them astray into the merciless desert. The terrain is a mosaic of razor-sharp glass, that threatens severe injuries on a fall, and lesser injuries with a misplaced step.
On cloudless days, the sun's rays are magnified by the glass, escalating the heat to dangerous levels and creating spontaneous scorching rays across the sands. The rusting iron hulls of the sandskiff wrecks offer reasonable cover.
Traversing these grounds reveals an enormous meteorite crater glowing soft green.
The rim of the crater rises around it like a fortress wall, and within, the single glowing shard is thrust into the earth like a javelin, pulsating with alien energy and marked with cryptic symbols. Its mysterious power subtly alters the surroundings, electrifying the air with buzzing, radiant energy.
