Goblet's Quarry Pools

The Porter's Road snaked down the slopes until it forks at the base of a hill. The northern most road leads up the slope toward the village of Goblet overlooking the milky blue lake filling the center of the old limestone quarry. Colorfully painted villas line streets paved with smooth cobble-stone arranged in elegant patterns and arcs pleasing to the eye. The road south leads down a gentle slope, spiraling inward to the submerged limestone quarry pit below.   Deeper: The snorkel of the auto-siphon is a steel pole that juts out of the water at the center of the little lake, draining it when the water rises too high [1:4].   [Drained] For an hour or two after the siphon has completed its work, the lower walls of the quarry are exposed revealing a wealth of fossils and petrified logs that are prized by the builders in Goblet for their luxurious coloration and peculiar patterning. A cleanly cut slab could be worth a small fortune to the right buyer.   The emptied quarry reveals the algae covered hulks of old digging engines that would take more effort than most are willing to spend for their resurrections.   [Filled] When full, the steppe cut ledges make pretty tiers of pools and waterfalls where bather's sun and swim in the clear shallow waters, wary of a slip and drop into the milky lake of the slurry sump far below. The quarry pools draws all manner of folk, and it is common to see food peddlers and wine merchants walking circuits around the pools looking for hungry and indulgent clientele.
