Clapham's Honors

A tremendous black scene cast in stone juts higher than its surrounding civic park; a constant rush of water flows beneath it and out into a vast pond that grows stiller as it reaches the furthest edges of its containing stone hemisphere.    Deeper: The aqueducts run smooth out of Plath. The miasma of clogged regions is clear here and the land devoid of bog. Almost as if the swamp had run its waters into the sea and then the sea been formed into a great, modern garden.   The black-mouthed triple opening of the city's water troughs runs under a great monument--a scene of trust amidst chaos; at center, a fanatical holy warrior whose shield is the face of an alien God and whose sun-ray helmet is sold in miniature nearby, a burning sword mid-sheathe; to his left and right, a ravenous flint-eyed soldier and a balding full-bellied aristocrat garbed in a robe of teeth, both watching the sheathing, heads honest and bowed, equally armed and half a step behind.   Called the Mayor Trinity, the 30' x 60' carving is done in black jet.   Unguarded, it is rung by the Loop Triumphant, a wide traveler's road that circles up at the pool formed where the aqueducts leave their tremendous output in a 50' deep concavity that can only just be shouted across.   Farmers of the southern region, travelers coming up from the wilderlands south off Corrheo, travelers leaving for the same wilderlands, immigrant caravans, ritual meetings between old friends, old lovers, families, and more converge on the space. Park grounds are cultured for a quarter mile around in hedge rows mixed of aquatic bush, small raised canals, and hydroponic flower displays nourished and upkept by Plathian administration. Combat and conflict are stilled by active auras of calm both natural and magical.   Often there are children who come to play with the miniature boats allowed to cut the waters, rented by the hour. All beast encounters are considered 'caged' for motivation, by the Pecks' and Illy's Oddities of the Wild troupe, a local show of noted prestige and immense moving cages.
