City Watch
The City Watch is the police force of Coromare, ensuring the safety of its residents and the protection of their property. Its members are responsible for quelling and investigating disturbances within the city walls.
Structure
Traditionally, the commander of the evening watch acts as the leader of the Watch as a whole, because it was the first watch to be established.
History
The City Watch was formed in the uncertain years following the death of King Nicolau II. The Kingdom saw two short reigns (Queen Alazne and King Gaizka "the Unlucky") in a span of five years, during which the stability of the Kingdom of Litticala was in question. Preoccupied with quelling the Sheeric Uprising, the Calan army was unable to give much attention to the daily crimes and disturbances in Coromare. To meet this need, several young men and women living in the turbulent Dockside district took it upon themselves to keep watch over the streets near their homes. Their early efforts were not without conflict and tragedy, with two of the initial Watch Keepers losing their lives in the first year. In time, however, the residents of Dockside came to recognize the necessity of these Watches and their numbers began to grow. Similar efforts began in neighboring districts, but it was clear that some measure of organization would be required to provide for the city as a whole.
The City Watch was officially founded in 226 GE, headquartered in a rented room above a Dockside tavern where the first Watch Keepers had met. King Nicolau III, seeing the good that these subjects did for Coromare, gave them his official blessing and gifted them land in Dockside to build their current headquarters.
In 313 GE, King Waheed asked that the City Watch relieve the army of its duty to monitor the city gates. This was a mutually beneficial request, because it freed soldiers for duties elsewhere in the Kingdom, and granted greater esteem to the Watch Keepers by giving them complete ownership of the protection of their city.
