Dockside

Dockside is one of the 10 districts of the city of Coromare. It is the only district to span both sides of the River Cando. The district is divided into 12 wards, 5 north of the river, and 7 to the south.   The district is situated in eastern Coromare. It is bordered to the north by Northgate, to the east by the Bay of Coromare, to the south by the Marsh, and to the west by Castle Garden and Godswalk. The two halves of the district are connected by the Eastbridge, while the Twinbridge connects to Castle Garden on the district's westernmost edge.

Geography

Demographics

The population of Dockside is approximately XXX, but fluctuates constantly.   Much of Dockside’s population is transient, spending only part of the year in Coromare, and the rest at sea. As an industrial district, Dockside is primarily lower-class. More Makeyans live in this district than anywhere else in the city due to its proximity to the harbor and the Guild Hall .

History

From Coromare’s earliest days, her people have sprawled along the banks of the River Cando. The river and the bay are the lifeblood of the city, so it was natural for fishing and other industry to occupy the area. As the city grew, and eventually divided into administrative districts, there was no question that Dockside would be one of them. The district’s borders, however, were difficult to draw. Separating the northern and southern halves of the area proved nearly impossible, for most businesses and families were involved in one way or another with both sides of the river. Instead, efforts were redirected to determining the outer bounds of the district, which had a tendency to creep ever outward like a spreading puddle. A natural border with the saltwater marsh to the south was the only easy line to draw.
