Bryton Taysith

Though officially recognised as one of the few true earls of the kingdom, his title and lineage are a carefully maintained illusion. In truth, Bryton is an immortal who fled the destruction of Thaeravel over a millennium ago and has ruled Collinwood in secrecy ever since.

The Deck of Many Things

The true source of Bryton's immortality lies within the infamous Deck of Many Things. Centuries ago, in desperation to avoid the fate that befell Thaeravel, he drew from the deck, sealing his unending existence in exchange for an unknown cost. Realising the danger it posed, he hid the deck deep within the Haunted Halls of Eveningstar, ensuring it would not fall into unworthy hands. Bryton remains one of the few individuals alive who knows exactly where it lies, and he carefully guards this knowledge, fearing the chaos it could unleash

History

Once a noble of Thaeravel, Bryton fled the kingdom’s destruction and wandered for decades before settling in what would later become Cormyr. When confronted by Faerithann Obarskyr, he chose fealty over battle, striking a pact that allowed him to rule Collinwood in peace. Over the centuries, he has maintained this illusion, assuming new identities as necessary and continuing his rule as an unbroken line of "Taysith lords." His presence is known only to a select few - Cormyr’s Queen, the Mage Royal, the High Harpers, and Elminster of Shadowdale - who keep his secret for the good of the realm.

Notable Equipment

Thaeravelan Signet Ring: A relic of his homeland, this ring is enchanted to mask his true nature, making him appear as an ordinary noble to magical scrutiny.   Blade of the Eternal Pact: An ancient sword imbued with protective magic, said to have been reforged in the ashes of Thaeravel’s fall.   Helmed Horrors: A personal army of fifty enchanted suits of armour, loyal only to him, awaiting his command in times of dire need, housed in the grand crypt of his estate.

Allies and Enemies

Queen of Cormyr: Aware of his existence, the reigning queen honours the ancient agreement and ensures his secrecy remains intact.   Elminster of Shadowdale: One of the few who fully understands Bryton’s history and the consequences of his continued existence.   The High Harpers: They watch him warily, knowing he is neither entirely friend nor foe, but bound to Cormyr’s interests for now.   Unknown Threats: There are those who seek remnants of Thaeravel’s lost power, and should they learn of Bryton’s survival, they may come for him and his secrets.

Roleplaying Notes

Bryton is a figure of quiet strength and mystery. He speaks with measured authority, choosing his words carefully, and does not waste time on idle conversation. When interacting with adventurers, he is watchful but not unkind, assessing their intentions before offering any aid. He respects those who show wisdom and restraint, but those who pry too deeply into his past will find his patience limited. If his secret is threatened, he will act decisively to preserve both his identity and the peace of Collinwood.

Overview

Earl Bryton Taysith is the enigmatic and reclusive ruler of Collinwood, a noble whose family claim to the land predates the founding of Cormyr itself. Despite his isolation, his steady governance has ensured the village’s prosperity and safety.

Appearance

Bryton Taysith appears as a tall, stately man with piercing grey eyes and an air of quiet authority. His hair, a silvered blond, falls to his shoulders, and his features bear the ageless quality of one who has lived far longer than he should. He dresses in fine yet practical noble garb, favouring deep blues and silvers, with a heavy cloak bearing the crest of his house. Despite his composed and refined appearance, there is an unmistakable weight behind his gaze - a knowing look of one who has witnessed the turning of many ages.

Personality

Bryton is honourable and steadfast but deeply private. He speaks little, but when he does, his words carry great weight. He values order and stability above all else, preferring to rule from the shadows rather than draw attention to his unnatural longevity. His loyalty to Cormyr is absolute, a pact made long ago to avoid conflict and maintain peace. Though rarely engaging with village life, he holds great affection for the people of Collinwood, quietly ensuring their safety and prosperity without seeking gratitude or recognition.

Abilities

Bryton’s true origins remain shrouded in mystery, but his survival through the centuries suggests formidable magical and martial prowess. While he rarely displays his power openly, he is a skilled tactician and capable warrior, with knowledge of both arcane and ancient Thaeravelan arts.
