The Flow

The Flow is the living magic flowing through all things, be they creature, plant, object, or other. It is the source from where power is drawn and where it is eventually released to. The Flow connects everything that has any substance to the Aether of nothingness and allows those in tune with it to manipulate the very fabric of reality to the point of performing miracles.

Can't Use What You Have

Despite the Flow being a part of every last thing in the world of Corivin, very few individuals can actually use the Flow to perform magic. The few who are capable of it tend to be shunned by society out of fear of the unknown. As this is the case, magic users tend to hide themselves and practice in secret. Self-teaching is what most users are forced to resort to, and many die in the process of trying to control their own abilities. Those who are lucky are mentored by another Venator or Tershun in an outpost.

Like Silken Threads

The Flow is imperceptible to most sapient beings unless a particular spell is placed upon them. When this spell is placed on an individual, the Flow becomes visible to them as light is. The Flow looks as slender threads of any imaginable color flowing out of an individual's core when under the spell's effects. The threads appear vibrant at first, but begin to fade an hour after the spell is cast and disappear completely within a day.

There are the select few who are either born with the ability to see the Flow or develop it in their lifetime. These individuals almost always go mad and, eventually, die horrible deaths.
