Cinnaspice

Tria, 08 Lia, Year 139 Third Cycle

This article is a work in progress

Cinnaspice is a spice blend that is culturally and religiously important to the people of Aranor. It is manufactured on a massive scale in Aranor. This has driven down the price to only one silver piece per vial in the country. It became significant to the people of Aranor through the belief that the God of Justice gifted Cinnaspice to the third Representative King of Aranor to bind his soul to the names which were bestowed upon him when recieving the title.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Sweet, but not too sweet. It's got a hefty kick, and makes your face feel like a blush. It also is baked using an oak fire, so it has an oak-y taste.

Cinnaspice is noticably sweet, but has a burning, spicy kick to it. This sweet spiciness is a common flavor in Aranor and the surrounding nations due to Cinnaspice's prevalence there. This spice blend is known as a warming spice, and is not recommended for use in the warmer areas of the continent.

This is Harder than it Looks

The manufacturing process of Cinnaspice is notoriously difficult to perfect. Thanks to that fact, there are several different grades of Cinnaspice. The most common grade - known simply as Common Grade Cinnaspice - goes for roughly one silver piece from any reputable dealer where the least common - known as Grade Z Cinnaspice - grade goes for upwards of twelve silver pieces.

The production of this spice blend requires low humidity and a large kiln to have any level of success. This is why the Cinnaspice Kilns of Aranor are mostly located in the north east of the country. Cinnaspice is produced by first drying and processing the constituent spices, then combining them, then baking the combination for at least twenty-four hours to remove any excess moisture. The baking process is said to impart a distinct warmth and flavor to the spice, although this is debated by those deemed less obsessive.

Birth, Death, and Everything Inbetween

In Aranor, Cinnaspice is used in many rituals. The most notable rituals are the Naming Ritual and the Burial Rites. Cinnaspice is seen as being able to attach and detach a person's soul to physical things as well as draw sickness from the body and soul.

In Aranor's Naming Ritual, Cinnaspice is mixed with water to make a paste which is then applied to a newborn's chest. The paste is then smeared onto a piece of ritual paper which has the newborn's five names written. This is seen as connecting the baby's soul to their names. This ritual is why pregnant mothers tend to carry pouches of Cinnaspice around their neck.

In the Burial Rites of Aranor, a paste is made from Cinnaspice and grapeseed oil. It is applied to the closed eyelids of a corpse. This is seen as being the step that releases a soul from the body.

Money, Money, Money

Despite the blend's limited usage in more torrid regions, Cinnaspice is a prevalent export even to those areas.
— An economic advisor

Cinnaspice is one of Aranor's most profitable exports. The blend can go for upwards of one gold piece in the northernmost nations of the continent. The blend is not limited to the colder countries though, as even the warmest nations have a soft spot for the spices.
