Garrison Infantry
These companies are assigned to Alyite fortresses. They are generally made up of Alyites who are unsuitable for field service supplement by new members who are still in training. These include order members who have young children, cannot ride well, and older human members of the order. The warrior’s armor is usually dictated by the individual preference and can include anything from leather to plate. They employee both short composite bows, crossbows and long bows. Hand weapons include spears, javelins, swords and axes.
Composition
Manpower
These units have a fluid organization ranging from 50 to 200 members. They will typically have one officer for every forth soldiers.
Weaponry
The the troops will have a mixture of heavy and light equipment with the choice of weapons mainly being based on individual preference. Most every member of a garrison company will have either a short bow or a crossbow, grenades are also commonly used. Armor ranges from studded leather to plate. Swords, axes and spears are typically used as melee weapons.
Structure
A garrison company is usually lead by a captain assisted by a number of lieutenants depending on the size of the unit with one officer for every forty troopers and one sergeant for every 20.
Tactics
These units are seen as a defensive. They usually concentrate their planning on defending the specific fortification they are assigned to often in conjunction with engineer units based as the same position.
Training
These units are always lead by long service professionals but often deploy trainees from their fortress as part of their numbers. The bedrock of these units are training officers and NCOs, veterans nearing retirements, troopers taking maternity leave from active field units and troopers who are reassigned because they are poor riders.
