Planar Collision

It Started On a Parallel Material Plane....

If you imagine all the planes of existance, alternate material planes existing in near identical space but split just slightly and stacked like plates, that is how the material planes existed before the Collision. Before the Collision, there was thought to be only one material plane, along with the other planes of existance, but in creation of the Divine Gate, as it is with all arcana, there was a resulting reaction from the material plane when permenantly seperating the material from the others. This permenant separation resulted in a splitting of the rich and diverse material plane.

Sudden Disappearances....

Suddenly, in less than an instant, with no real reason as to what parts ended up where, entire lands and peoples just disappeared from the material plane. Or as it really happened, the material plane was split into 9 different parallel planes. Each unique, and with no alternate versions of the people living on them. Just peoples once living together now seperated with no notice. This event caused new adventurers to have a need to explore the once known world to find the new lands, and see which old lands were taken from them by the gods. New conflicts arose over scarcer resources, and new brands of criminals had opportunity to rise from the shadows with this separation.

Blame it on the Gods....

Many across the planes viewed this sudden lack as a punishment from the gods they worshipped as maybe they hadn't done enough, but others viewed it as a gift from those same gods, where the 'unwanted' were sent from their existance. Others who didn't think it was connected to religion concluded it was a completely arcanic reaction, and that the others still existed, just outside of the current sight.

The Collision....

When planar shift was discovered, it was hard for those who used the spell to always end up back on their plane, unless it was a unique item specific to their home, which led the curious--labeled as crazy--to the conclusion that the material plane was still compact together, just somehow kept apart. It was thought that the split of the material plane was to reinforce the barriers trapping the Betrayer Gods in their planes.

Plan for Power....

A few greedy arcanists from across the planes traveled rather consistently, and made a plan. The plan was to make mechanical machines to siphon the magic into their respective planes to have it split between three rulers. However, the two others in the group underestimated the greed of the third, and built faulty machines. This resulted in all the magic being siphoned into one plane that would not be able to handle the raw magic, causing a magical bang to echo throughout the planes of existance, and causing the plane of Amonkhet to collapse. This created a domino effect as they all crashed into one another at different points, weakening the planal boundaries and barriers that were once strong, into sheer places where one could walk and all of a sudden be in another world.

Wanderers, Travelers, No-good-doers....

For years, those who have heard this rumor have tested it, and some have found areas to cross over, but getting back is not always as straightforward. Some cross over on accident and either have to find another way to return or have to settle in a strange and sometimes hostile new land. Others travel intentionally with a goal in mind, and are known to plane jump (at least around the material planes) to make a few coin, and others cross with nefarious intentions.

Implications....

The Collision has led many skilled arcanists and researchers to look into what this collision could mean for the other planes, but have yet to prove anything has 'leaked' into the material planes not already here. But they are on the watch for any soft spots.

Exandria....

It was luck that caused Exandria to be the plane the others crashed into. If we think of it like a stack of plates, it was the bottom one and was able to catch the broken fragments of the others on its surface. Or maybe, it was due to something other than luck, but that is for the arcanic researchers to prove and decide.
