City, or Beings?

I never would have believed it if I hadn't looked in the eyepiece of the device to see for myself. I thought Zeyar was pulling my leg. I also knew we would have to wait a full day, and we weren't positive that Ruidis would be shining as brightly the next night. This meant I would potentially not be able to witness the same thing, and have to take their word for it.

Boy, were we wrong. Ruidis flared even brighter this night, when I was looking through our lens, the green canceling out the normal crimson tones, leaving but a black and white world for me to view. Prior to this, we had observed vague shapes on the surface of a planet with a storm moving around it, clouding up the sky. But as I had taken the time to add more magnification, what I saw was breathtaking.

I saw what appeared to be a city on the surface of this moon, but as I blinked in time with the blinding flare, the city was gone and I saw two dark figures who's eyes stared right back at me as if they could see me watching. Scared, I stumbled back dropping the lens, finding myself back in the room with Zeyar who excitedly started talking about the possibility of other peoples.

I can't help but wonder if the city is what those two faces wanted us to see, and I managed to see beyond an illusion. What path have we started down? Can we stop? Do I want to stop?
