The Laws of Conchant

Anym is the primary energy influence in this universe and viewed as the source of all life. It is the force behind the magical abilities of different races and species throughout Conchant and the surrounding islands.   At the center of the small planet, there exists a dense ball of molten or plasma Anym energy, which webs its way to the rocky surface through a vast network of veins that harden into clear or teal crystal formations when exposed to the air. There are several very large formations of Crystal Anym throughout the continent that have become areas heavily devoted to spiritual worship. These areas are also often found to have a higher population of Humans, who are capable of tapping into the Raw Anym of their surroundings and their own bodies. In the first four of Conchant’s kingdoms, most Humans are made to train as Sages of Anym under a strict code from a young age, labeling apostates of this program as dangerous Witches.   Elves, on the other hand, are the majority in most cities and have a lower concentration of Raw Anym in their bodies, thus lacking magical abilities except in rare historical circumstances that may be more legend than reality. Certain afflictions that impact an individual's ability to process and regenerate Anym naturally are more commonly found in Elves, and they frequently have shorter lifespans than Humans or other magical creatures.   Deep in the forests of the third kingdom named Kusiyu, there even exist stories of a cursed Elven family existing as semi-living creatures called Cruentus that feast on the Anym in the blood of others – giving them eternal youth and strange physical or psychic abilities much different than those of Humans.

Initial Active Setting

The story begins within the kingdom of Diatross, the first of five major kingdom-territories on Conchant. The main characters find themselves in circumstances that force them to quickly leave Diatross to travel between the other kingdoms across the vast continent; some of them eventually even sail to the mysterious islands off the coasts.   The ocean beyond the coasts of Diatross and the fifth kingdom named Amium, is deemed too dangerous and vast, with no land in sight, though no one has truthfully returned to validate such claims.
