Valcow Settlement in Colossus | World Anvil

Valcow

This city takes the title of capital of Sovii. Situated almost dead in the centre of the freezing cold lands of the wintery nation.   Massive stone walls covered in ice, huge ancient towers looking out in all directions across the tundra's.   No one knows truly who built the city, it is believed to have been a gift by the elder powers. The Natash Orcs treat it as the holiest place on Colossus.    They wouldn't be far wrong if they more folk knew the truth of the place. When the people of Colossus were nothing more than sparks of curious life, there were powers that dwelled among the skies, mountains and seas.    Powers that were overflowing and needed ways to siphon it away from themselves into Colossus. It was offered to those building huts and tree houses. But it was feared and shunned.    Eventually it spilled over and disasters hit the land, cracking the ground, spouting lava, great waves crashed into mountains.    The Natash Orcs stood up against the power. Braced against it and demanded it stop. A deal was struck. If the Orcs could find one who could harness their power then they would stop.    Setting out across the blizzard torn land the Natash Orcs found Valcow. An empty bastion city. Mighty and unyielding. It would be here they would find this person.     More and more Natash arrived at Valcow and the city begun to thrive, hardy and strong against the disasters of the world. Sparks of elemental power clashed with one another forming berserk creatures to manifest and try to take the city.   The Natash Orcs took oaths not to let the city fall. It was now the jewel of their people. Orders of Knights formed, noble orders swearing oaths of war, protection, life, conquest, and the list went on.    Still these powers demanded a bearer of their power, one who could slow the disasters. Now a monarchy the Natash Orcs promised they hadn't forgotten. Their Karlju, monarch, sent champions forth looking for the one the elemental powers needed.    After decades of searching, hundreds of battles against the elemental chaos. An Orc by the name of Voyun wandered into the city streets of Valcow.    Upon their person were many trinkets, earthen jewellery, wisps of cloud floated about their person. Fire danced in their eyes and the droplets of water danced on their shoulders.    A elemental monk of sorts, Voyun had studied them since a child. Had stood before the mountains when they cracked, swam the seas as they slammed waves into the land. Warmed themselves by the heat of the volcanoes and slept upon clouds.    The Karlju welcomed Voyun to Valcow and asked of them to seek attunement with the elemental powers seeking to calm.    Voyun agreed and split their spirit into four pieces. Each of the four elementals were given a piece. The seas settled, the mountains grumbled less and the fires cooled. High in the sky it was bright and pleased.   To prevent the disasters from happening again the elementals used the spirt of Voyun to gift the Knightly orders of Valcow with elemental power.   Voyun became known as the patron of all the Knights in the nation of Sovii, and the Orders held home in the city of Valcow.   There were those that sort to become more than Knights, to become Paladins of the Elementals. But it is only in Valcow can this be achieved.
