The Neroliath

Historically the Neroliath were the deities of the Seas. Legend and myth were told among sailors, port towns and any sea faring folk of giants that ruled the waters.   All along the coasts of Etoria were statues, shrines and temples showing respect and worship of this deep sea race.    The Neroliath stayed away at first, accepting their role in the culture of the Etorians, whilst they were revered they could go about their lives living beneath the waters and on small islands where they could relax and enjoy the years of life a head of them.   Curiosity crept into the Etorians and being a religious people they wanted to witness the sea gods, to kneel before them and beg for power.    It soon spread that the first ship to find the divine homes of the sea gods, its crew would be blessed with eternal life upon the waves.    Such a treasure drove more and more sailors to build mighty ships and hardy crews to sail in search of the radiant homes of the Neroliath.   The sea giants tried to for decades to keep themselves hidden from the sailors, to let the rumours and whispers build and create grand embellished stories of their whereabouts. But it wasn't enough to stay hidden.    Etorians started to build fleets of ships, scouring the waves, determined to find the giants. But when they found nothing they grew angry. Those of arcane skill  were brought out to sea, rituals were performed poisoning the seas.    Trying to smoke out the gods beneath.    The Neroliath could no longer hide or it would be the death of them. They met the Etorians, pleaded with them to stop. But it did nothing more than wound the faithful deeply. Their gods were empty faith, the Etorians felt betrayed.   Fire was stoked in the bellies of the Etorians, words such as betrayed, lied to, blood in the water, were used.     The Neroliath children played among coral reefs, it spoke to them and taught them the ways of the sea. The reefs were destroyed, the children scattered to the tides.    Great sea beasts lived in harmony with the Neroliath but the Etorians forced the Siren cousins of the giants to sing melodies of death causing the beasts to fall into a deep sleep and then finally death.    Not fighters the giants tried to reason with the Etorians, but it was hopeless, they were too hurt by the truth. Blinded by it. The giants had to pay for this pain.    The Stalyon Shells were cracked and ruined no longer could the Neroliath use them to travel the oceans.    Etoria punished the sea giants for not revealing the truth, for accepting the blind worship given them. It didn't matter the Neroliath used it to remain out of sight, didn't matter that no harm was done.    For centuries after those of a mind would sit and discuss the events of that history. The divine nature of the Neroliath, and the eventual merging of the Etorian culture and memories of the sea gaints way of life.
