Steppes of Broken Echoes

Far in the North of Chuck'Ruani a stretch of land rich in minerals and metals, forests of arcane life, land saturated in fertility, sits untouched by any.
The Steppes are not part of the lands history, more a statement of its future. Explorative campaigns have been put together many a time to travel in the Steppes and its wealth, claiming it for the people of many nations.
Those of Ravenholme sent their might and arcane masters but were turned away by what they found.
Hardy folk from Vikonia challenged the fear inducing stories of the place and they too turned away.
The biggest blow to the confidence of those looking to claim the land was when the Knightly Orders of Sovii climbed atop their steeds and led a prayer of apology before returning to their own homes.
Broken Echoes is a fitting name for the Steppes, as many wandering it, waiting for its origin in the material realm. The warriors and intellects of the expeditions were faced with echoes of themselves and could not stand to face them.
This is why so many turned back. Seeing the darkest reflections of ones self was too much. All were forever changed when the spent time on the Steppes, some less so than others.
Untouched the life across the Steppes is bright and beautiful. Soaring the skies above the rocks, running the land across the small plains. Each creature stunning hybrid of echo magic and the beasts of the material realm.
Many would travel to the borders, and even now there are camps all along it of the wealthy looking for individuals and teams to face the horrific echoes of themselves for the reward of gold and glory.
But to do such a thing is no easy task weather you be beggar or prince.
