The Confederacy is only 350yrs old (2980)
They grew from the expedition and exploration that had two aims, one to perfect Terraforming of a planet, to be habitable for humans to live, and the study of the construction and mapping of the wormhole lands, seeking a possible link to another galaxy. They also were a means of the Imperial Empire to dump their 'bad eggs' to appease the Temple.

The Wayfarer Fleet, they also called Mars this is a nod to their begining but also the fact that will protect their region of space. They are heavily involved in the mapping of the wormhole lanes/branches, along with finding what is out there in the universe.
They protect their peple from Pirates and Privateers who hit their transports, and attack their space stations, they also have had an encouter with an Alien Race or Weapon.
