Nidian is the general term used to refer to locals of the Jungle of Feathers. Nidian humans tend to have darker skin tones and have black or brown hair. Hosts a massive population of Aarocokra, Lizardfolk, and Kenku.

  • Nidians are generally touchy feely in introductions. Tight hugs, and even light kissing is very common, even among strangers.

  • If a Nidian finds you to be wearing excessive clothing and showing no skin, they will generally consider you as prude.

  • Nidian art is as colorful as the Aarocokra who created their artistic customs. Generally Aztec inspired, the architecture is complex, artistic, generally depicts deities or other heroes.

Foods & Cuisine

  • Nidian cuisine consists of a lot of protein, generally from dinosaurs, and grilled fruits that bring a mixture of sweet and very spicy.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • Every 3rd day (Journeé) all businesses in the Jungle of Feather close for the day and they engage in dancing, sport, and general celebration. This is considered the day of the week that the Elder Birds first rose from the sea of Exousía

  • When a child is born, merchants from every industry bring the expecting family gifts, food, and clothing for the child.

Coming of Age Rites

  • Every young man and woman knows about the Trial of Krocaa. An Aarocokra tradition that spread across the entire region, this trial says that when anyone turns 15, they are to be walked into the jungle with nothing more than 3 days rations, a spear, and a rope. They are meant to then find their way back to their home city by any means after slaying a carnivorous beast or creating an inspired work of art.

Funerary and Memorial customs

  • Nidians burn their dead on massive decorative pyres, so their spirits may fly free into the sky

Common Taboos

  • Speaking Ill of Krocaa is considered bad luck. Even by the non-religious 
  • Mentioning or considering upon the weather is considered bad luck

Common Myths and Legends

  • In the times before Gal'Galed, the Jungle was a battleground between Krocaa and Semuanya, and they battled for generations, until Jupiter spoke down on them and demanded their peace. Jupiter then called upon his power to help Krocaa create the Elder Birds to create civilization to separate them from the chaotic followers of Semuanya. Only the most ancient minds and Dwarven record know this to be myth.

Beauty Ideals

Nidians tend to wear very little clothing, but value bright popping colors in virtually every aspect. Many Nidians sport tattoos and body jewelry as a fashion trend, as well as using Dyes from the forest in their hairs and to customize their clothing.

Gender Ideals

  • Men in Nidian society are considered to be wise and thoughtful. The culture here believes that a man is better cunning than powerful.
  • Women are considered strong and enduring in Nidian society. Training in the finer arts of combat and sport is considered feminine and beautiful here.

Courtship Ideals

  • Marriage in the Jungle is not a general practice. People in the Jungle of Feathers tend to take on multiple partners, and engage in multiple romantic relationships.
