The Vaglar

The Vaglar were an ancient tribal people who lived and developed in the western region of what is known today as Paltroy. As the Paltroy nation grew they absorbed many other cultures that they had encountered. Some did so willingly, while others were forced to. The Vaglar lived in their isolated communities and had hoped that if they paid lip service to Paltroy that the larger nation would simply leave them alone.  For the first few decades this was the case as they were still able to live their lives. With Paltroy came farming and protection as Paltroy military units would clear out any monsters they encountered, thus safeguarding the Vaglar. The Vaglar tribes grew steadily in population and prospered for a time. Within the first century of Paltroy rule a regime change occurred and the Vaglar found their lives much harder. The new regime demanded more and more of their crops and resources as tribute and many Vaglar were forcefully conscripted in the Paltroy's military to be used as fodder for the war machine in nations across the world that they had never heard of much less had any animosity towards. As the centuries went by there were several regime changes and the Vaglar began to lose their tribal identities and adapt to more "modern" ways of living. Cities were built in what was once their territory and armies were raised to be trained and sent off to fight more endless wars.  After a millennium of barely subsisting while have more and more demanded of them, another regime was occurring. In return for their support of the rebels, the Vaglar would gain their independence. The Vaglar agreed and after the sucessful overturn of power, they were able to form their own nation of Vaglara. Vaglara grew and flourished for about a century, building powerful armies and establishing trade with several nations. This was not to last as yet another regime change in the ever-tumultuous Paltroy saw Vaglara get reconquered after a harrowing 5 years' war.  Many hundreds of thousands of Vaglarans escaped in the hopes of regrouping and finding support to one day retake their stolen nation. Those that remain are second class citizens at best. Though Paltroy officially has no slavery, there have been several forced labor camps built in the major populated areas of what was once Vaglara's largest cities.
