The Mees Ethnicity in Colarn | World Anvil

The Mees

The Mees are a cat-like people that once had a multi-continent spanning empire. The Mees are a different people than the Ibubesi in Tabrua, who are universally leonid in nature and appearance. The Mees have the graceful build similar to more domesticated cat species and predate the Ibubesi as a race and even the ancient Vicean Hegemony.  The Mees were known as peerless magical and alchemical potion makers. The recipes for most potions still brewed and sold today originated from Mees culture as the Mees were the ones who taught the ancient cultures how to make them. The Mees did not give up all of their potion making secrets though. The potions they would create would keep their potency for much longer than anyone else's and occasionally, previously unknown potions and recipes would be discovered. The Mees are known to be a paranoid people, which leads some scholars to believe that for nearly every potion on the market, the Mees had much more potent variations of all of them. They would not want to share their greatest secrets with others to later be used against them. The Mees were also known as the founders of several ancient martial art styles. Catkit-Gwak, Juni-Cinko and Brocho-Jeartu are still practiced in different areas of Colarn and all are known to rely more on speed and grace than on power. It is rumored that several Mees monasteries dedicated to the perfection of these arts still exist somewhere in the world. Not even the Mees alive today know what happened to their once vast Empire. Most Mees travel in groups of a hundred or more, always on the move and wandering the open roads. They can be found anywhere in the world, but by far the largest concentration is on the continent Rodico. Some believe that this is because the former seat of power for their empire was on Rodico.
