Material Realm

The world of Cohar is diverse, defined as much by its ancient religious doctrines as its modern technological innovations. Sprawling cities are constructed where the barrier between the material realm and the Pleroma is most thin, allowing their citizens to transition peacefully into the Pleroma upon their death without risking confrontation with the Archons archons of Maurus.   These conduits to the Pleroma may shift, or the gods above who control them may change to less favourable ones, resulting in mass upheavals or even entire nations left abandoned. Wars are fought and huge sums of money are exchanged in order to control these conduits. Many innovators have toiled away their entire lives trying to artificially open or close a passage to the beyond.   This technological push has opened the door to many new discoveries in recent centuries. Engines, firearms, and more advanced technologies are commonplace in the more wealthy and populated regions of Cohar, whilst the wide availability of mechanical and biological augmentations have changed what it means to be a mortal.   The farther away one travels from these conduit cities, the more sparely populated the land becomes. It is in these remote parts of the world where one will find the more unusual and unfamiliar ways of life and belief systems - cults to forgotten gods, worshippers of Maurus, and hedonistic scavengers picking through the bones of lost civilisations.   Life in these remote locations is hard. Much of Cohar is a wasteland, oppressive in its temperature and geography. With the promise of a better, more purposeful life after death, it is no surprise that to many, life on Cohar is viewed as merely a temporary state of purgatory.
