Jynsa Secundus
Once, Jynsa Secundus was just another lifeless desert world, devoid of oxygen, water, and life in general. It was its moon, Lysaria, that was the real value of the celestial body, and indeed the system itself. The small planet was once a thriving metropolis, its conditions a perfect breeding ground for life and a home for several billion souls. Aside from this, the system the planet and its magnificent moon were located in happened to be at a key navigational junction in the web of hyper lanes that bridged the stars, and thus a key part of galactic infrastructure as well as military strategy. It was during the The War of the Millions (aka the Ascension Wars) that it befell its grim destiny. In the chaotic struggle born of the power vacuum left by the fallen Scourge, a million different leaders strove to carve out their own chunk of the galaxy to rule as they saw fit. Many thousands of battles took place across many thousands of worlds, many to no avail or purpose as a more powerful faction would soon come along to wipe out the victor and assimilate their forces into his own. The Battle of Jynsa Secundus however, was far from irrelevant. Far above the planet, forces of the fledgling Varkhír Brotherhood clashed with the invading Shuruk Warband, one of the largest of such in the galaxy. In an appalling disregard for the value of human life, the Shuruk forces launched a preemptive strike on Lysaria in hopes of wiping out or at least greatly weakening their greatest rival for power. The Brotherhood had foreseen the act of barbarity though, and had made a rapid egress from the moon mere moments before its total obliteration, descending their massive mech army to the surface of Jynsa Secundus below in an incredible logistical display. The Warlord Carnathus would not so easily have his kill stolen from him however, and down to the desert planet’s arid surface he perused his quarry. It was there that the two largest mech forces in the galaxy clashed, neither one willing to surrender, both sides fully intending to fight to the last. And fight to the last the Shuruk did, after the most costly mech-on-mech battle in recorded history, leaving many millions of mech husks scattered across the planet’s crust. The Brotherhood would name the nearly 3.5 million square mile battlefield the Dying Ground, in honor of their fallen brothers that had died so that the Varkhír could rise to enduring power. As the system no longer provided any real value however, at the edge of Brotherhood territory as it was, it was largely abandoned, the slain left to their eternal slumber undisturbed. That was, until the emergence of The Reaver Guilds some years later. The Reavers’ proclivity for harvesting disabled mechs and bringing them back to life as it is, Jynsa Secundus, the largest known mech graveyard, was a veritable gold mine for the Guilds. So much so, that the planet was eventually harked as the official capital of The Reaver Guilds, and they continue to excavate and restore ancient mechs from the sandy depths for use or sale to this day, and likely will do so for the foreseeable future. Due to the amount of people now living on the inhospitable world, ongoing attempts have been made to terraform its barren surface, to limited results. Now, while a rebreather is still required when braving the planet’s atmosphere, the air is at least partially breathable and new and hardy plant life has begun to sprout up around the world with the introduction of additional water to key areas. Many amongst the Guilds see this as an omen for the continued growth Jynsa Secundus will provide to the Reavers, with countless mechs still be drawn up and distributed across the galaxy for great profit to this day.
