Ignatus, the Walking City

The largest of the city mechs of Kandanté

“The first omen of its arrival was the thunder, distant at first, but growing ever louder until as if torn from the black skies in that season of darkness, louder than any lighting even the gods could punish us with. We began to pray then, beseeching the heavens until our voices were ragged and useless, but the avalanche of sound continued and we saw naught but the unending night. Next came the great quakes, rippling solid ground like waves and reducing our homes to rubble. And yet, we still saw nothing. Next, even amidst the roiling stone beneath the feet of the few of us who yet lived, a terrible heat swept in, yet another plague brought by the gods to scourge us for transgressions unknown, the once cold air drawing the little remaining moisture from out bodies as we tried to scavenge for our lives. Then last, on the final day of torment, as the still increasing cacophony of sound finally obliterated the last of our hearing, the darkness was scoured away buy crimson light, seeming to bathe our domain in blood. Three red suns stood out in the sky, instantly scorching our flesh and beginning to burn away our clothes. But the lights was not of any stars, nor any vengeful spirit sent by the gods to finally cast us into the underworld. Finally, we saw what had caused our suffering and so altered the course of our lives. Before us lumbered a mountain of metal, a man’s figure clad in steel whose head scraped the clouds, his three red eyes casting enough light to burn our skin, but also to illuminate the word engraved on its chest in flowing gothic script. Ignatus, our destroyer, and our salvation.” -Ancient texts found hidden deep within the archives of Ignatus

Infrastructure

The reactor of Ignatus, arguably the most vital part of any mech, is located in the very core of the massive mech’s superstructure. It remains unknown how this power source functions or why it has contiued to supply huge amounts if power for presukably thousands of years without faltering. Attempts have been made to breach the reactor’s proectetive shell (a nearly impossible feat in and of itself), but radiation levels immediatly became so high that the workers were killed nearly instantly, along with starting a horrible radiation leak that nearly caused the deaths of a large percentage of the city and is still being linked to birth defects many years later. Voulenteer mech crews had to be sent to seal the leak, knowing that they would not survive. They successfully managed to weld the breach shut moments for collapsing, and their named are now carved into the memorial plaque outside of Reactor Hall.
