Icebreak Bay

"It is a common practice for some Tritons, namely those addicted to the substance, to travel from one end of the Coast to the other to seek out the Sharp Eyed Mollusk's special psychedelic fluids, known to the Empyreans as 'dupkip'. Prone to being a place of legal disputes and small skirmishes between the law, traders and smugglers, the Icebreak gives whoever seeks to control it their fair share of head aches, sorrow and gold." - Tales from the Sun

Geography

The bay itself is split between Lanavar and Hyborea, with large portions of it being on each side. Both sides of the Bay have a unique geography due to their proximal locations. The bay itself roughly about thirty miles long and fifteen miles wide, although several estimates claim otherwise.

Lanavar

The Lanavar side of the Bay is mostly open coast. On the Bay's southern end, it comes into contact with the jungles of northern Lanavar Peninsula. It largely also is apart of the Empyrean Coast and as such, has become a home for many species of Triton and other coastal societies. It is worth noting much of the Lanavar side does not have much in terms of islands as to say, compared to the Hyborean side, which is littered with over a dozen smaller landmasses. In addition, much of the Lanavaran side of the Bay is typically deeper than than the Hyborean side, lending to various factors when considering sea related travel and civilization. Most of the Lanavaran side boasts a cool weather, which becomes much warmer in the summers. This sometimes results in hurricanes along the coast, sometimes spreading to the northern Hyborean Bay area.

Hyborea

Much of the Hyborean side of the Bay is relegated to the Icebreak Isles, a series of lesser isles along the southern Hyborean coast. Most of the islands in the Bay area are located here along with most non undersea activity happening here as well. The Hyborean side is considerably more shallow than the Lanavaran side as well. Most of the weather here is cooler than on the Lanavaran side. Due to this, it is usually a temperate to outright cold temperature on the Bay, resulting in snow fall only in the late fall and winter.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

Considering few trees grow on the land portions of the Bay area, most of the surface level plant life are akin to ferns, roots and shrubs. Rarer are trees and flowering plants. The trees of the location are typically pine or oak and a more cold-accustomed species of palm, although several of the islands within the area are believed to have their own unique variants of these common plant types. Underwater, most of the flora that can be found is that of sea weed and underwater reeds, as supported by the typically cool ecosystem.

Fauna

It is worth noting that the Bay typically shares the same creatures across both regions. Notable examples of this are the Imperial Turtles and Blood Hawk, both of which are found across the Bay. The ecosystem of this area, despite being rich in most edible beasts, does not support many huge or bigger sized creatures. Because of this, even the Imperial Turtle is rarely found here, instead focusing on deeper waters for most of their life. The land based fauna here are usually capable of inter-island traversal, be it by air or swimming and are well adapted to the seasonal storms and cold winters accompanying the environment as well.

Pseudo

Several strange creatures live within the Bay area. Arguably, one of them is the Imperial Turtle, although this is held in high speculation. More common creatures are believed to have either been wiped out or put to near extinction, i.e. the Icebreak Werebear and Empyrean Merfolk kindred. Interestingly, since the Year of Blood, several Hydra have been spotted in the area, implicating territorial and food disputes with the native Imperial Turtles.

Natural Resources

Several kinds of resources can be found here, though most famously the Icebreak Bay area is known for its non natural resources, such as the amount of artifacts that are usually found here. The area's inhabitants typically make use of the readily available ecosystem though fishing and hunting although this aspect of the native coastal societies rarely makes use of itself to outsiders. A notable feature is the area's native palm wood, which is often cut and use for native and outside use due to both its relative fashion, flexibility and strength. In addition to these, another staple of the Bay is the underwater area specific kinds of snails and crustaceans, often of which are farmed by local Empyreans and hunted for by land dwelling societies. The unique aspects of these creatures are not only their distinct, almost tangy taste, but the potential hallucinogenics several of these animals share when prepared in such a way that draws out fresh bladder-based liquids without spoiling them.

It is worth noting that this does not cover the entire Bay area, rather only the northern, mostly Hyborean parts of it.
