Les Veilleurs

Les Veilleurs control the highest fixed points in District 4. Antenna masts, water towers, crane arms, building crowns. They hold altitude itself.

Their business model is information and overwatch. They sell Khuyeta patrol patterns to players avoiding tolls. They sell player movement data to the Khuyeta. They sell the same route intelligence to Dansk Anker that they sell to the people actively trying to bypass Dansk Anker's bridges.

The syndicate is led by l'Architecte, who is occasionally seen during high-profile incidents: always at a distance, always above, always watching. Les Veilleurs do not hold ground. They hold information about ground. The distinction is everything.

Cultural Identity

Distinctly French-influenced aesthetic. Long coats with weighted hems to prevent wind flutter, tinted goggles calibrated for distance observation, and modular rifle platforms built for extreme-range accuracy. The hierarchy is structured around cathedral architecture. The syndicate is a cathedral. Every member is load-bearing stone.

The Cathedral

  • Arcs-boutants (3-5 active): Senior lieutenants managing clusters of observation posts. Ines Dupont manages the northern cluster.
  • Gargouilles (15-20 active): Dedicated spotters maintaining eight-to-twelve hour observation shifts. Céline Marchand is the longest-serving.
  • Vitraux (10-15 active): Precision shooters deployed only on l'Architecte's direct authorization. Rèmy Faucon leads this tier.
  • Pierres (25-30 active): General operatives handling logistics, position maintenance, and supply runs.

Known Relationships

  • Khuyeta Punishers: Primary client and primary subject of surveillance simultaneously. The arrangement is irritating for the Khuyeta and lucrative for Les Veilleurs.
  • Dansk Anker: Reliable client. Stationary bridge positions benefit greatly from advance warning.
  • Corona del Alambre: Theatrical rivalry. The gargoyles watch from above while the matadors perform below. Both consider the other's relationship with altitude fundamentally uninteresting.
  • MQ/imcool: Movement patterns are difficult to predict and therefore difficult to sell. A persistent operational problem.
  • The Salary Man: When he enters District 4, Gargouilles broadcast his position to every active client simultaneously, free of charge.
