Nevarr the Broken

Reality and sanity go hand and hand. When one breaks the other is not to far behind. What breaks first is lost to time.

These words echoes across my mind. A couple sentences etched deep into my memory. The words of a crazy man or was it a crazy woman. Was the one who uttered it first the one who was lost or is it the one deeply haunted by these words lost as well. As theses words echoed more and more all I could do is ponder the past as I await my trial.

Locked away in a cell haunted by memories of past joys, filled with guilt as those memories give way to waking nightmares of how it all shattered from my actions. I am broken and it is all my fault.

"Really now is moping all you good for."

I rolled away from the wall to look over at the far side of my cell to see my cellmate. Mr. D a man who bore a Mask made of some kind of metal that hides the shell of a man who has been exposed to the void far longer than I. In some ways he is the one who set me on this path of self destruction. When he reached a hand out to pull me up, he set the chain of events that would lead me here. For if I continued to fall into that void I would have never committed my sins.

"So todays the big day." Mr. D said as he leaned forward on his make shift chair of stone bricks. "Are you ready for your judgment day?"

"Not really." I said as I sat up from my bed. "Not that it matters if I am."

"True, you are the one on trial. I doubt they going to ask if you're ready." D leaned back as he rubbed at the chin of his mask. "Though I do wonder what the outcome will be."

I leaned forward and eyed him for a bit before letting out a sigh. "You know the outcome. Me banished and my magic bound."

"True, but isn't that what you wanted. To pay for your sins. To seek justice for your crimes." D said as he stood up from the stone bricks.

"Yeah justice. Sadly it seems they are putting all the blame on me and burying the sins of my master and not even bothering to investigate the black hand."

“Did you expect anything better.” D said before sitting down next to me. “The idea that a great shaman could be dabbling in the forbidden would put a black eye on their title. Which makes it more likely to keep such things hidden especially with no one to physically carry the blame.”

“Then why not pursue the black hand?”

“Maybe they plan to in their own way. Maybe they hope you will do the work for them.” D said.

I chuckled. “Of course they sit back while they let others do their dirty work. It’s sad my traitorous master was far more hands on than the rest of them.”

The sounds of footsteps could be heard as they grew louder. D stood up and made his way to his corner.

“I guess it’s time. Good luck kid.” He said as he sat down on his bricks.

I nodded my head before focusing on the door of my cell. I heard the click of my lock before it was opened and I saw a familiar face.

“It’s Time.” The woman said somberly.

I stood up and walked past her before stopping to look her in the eye. “Let’s get this over with, Aunty Worcai.”

I smirked as she looked down just as broken as me. Though she will get past that. Me on the other hand will not escape my sins.

We travelled in silence as we made our way to the room of judgment. A place I and many others recounted the events of what happened in the valley. The council of great shamans looking down judging us with their eyes.

As we neared the large door I could see the members of Worcai’s squad. A large female fenrian name Lupa and a shady maulin named Yagithar.
