Undead (uhn-ded)

The Risen, the Walking Dead, the Restless Spirits

We saw him burned at the stake. After five years, the serial arsonist had been brought to justice... or so we thought. The fires got worse after he died. Bigger, harder to extinguish. Deadlier. His spirit returned, full of anger and loathing, a fire phantom, unlike anything we had ever seen.
Known as the Undead, those who carry the curse of Undeath are those spirits that carry on past their death, through either supernatural curses, spiritual forces, or the strength of their will.   Whatever the cause, Undead are are considered a scourge throughout Solia. When a creature becomes undead, it will often retain several traits from its mortal life, though the infusion of Negative Energy causes the degradation of any physical form it had.

Types of Undead

  • The Mindless Undead- Created from corpses or remains of the dead simply by infusing them with negative energy, typically the works of a necromancer to use as drones who simply follow orders. Left to their own devices, a mindless undead wanders aimlessly, preying upon any living beings they come across. The most common undead found throughout Solia, these include Skeletons and Zombies.
  • The Incorporeal Undead- Beings whose souls are tethered to the Negative Energy Plane, such as ghosts, spectres, and wraiths, these undead appear intangible in the Material Plane.
  • The Hungry Undead - Created as the result of a horrible death with their soul unable to pass into the Afterlife, are ravenous beings intent on spreading their curse throughout the world. Ghouls and Wights are examples of Hungry Undead.
  • The Consummate Undead- The rarest of the undead, the Consummate Undead are those who wilfully corrupt their souls with Negative Energy, who retain their souls. Liches, Vampires, and Mummies are the most well-known of the Consummate Undead.
